Responsibility & Sustainability
At Isokenkäisten Klubi, responsibility begins with respect for the surrounding Kuusamo wilderness. Located by Lake Heikinjärvi at the foot of Kuntivaara Fell, we aim to preserve the nature, tranquillity and local heritage that make this place special.
Sustainability is also closely connected to the history of Isokenkäisten Klubi. Old buildings have been given a new life. Cottages in the grounds have been created from traditional old barns and threshing barns, while the main building was once home to a large family from Kuusamo. Each building has its own story and is part of the local cultural heritage.
This same approach continues throughout the interiors. Wood and recycled building materials have been used in the buildings, while much of the furniture and tableware is recycled, second-hand or made up of carefully selected finds. High-quality Finnish design is also an important part of the interiors and tableware.
Our commitment to responsible tourism is recognised with both the Sustainable Travel Finland label and Green Key certification. Responsibility is not only about certifications, however. It is reflected in our everyday choices, from wastewater treatment and the reuse of materials to the seasonal and local ingredients used in Restaurant Klubi.
