Wild Food Kuusamo Lapland

Kota cooking by the fire

We welcome you to prepare a gourmet meal in a traditional Lappish hut ”Kota,” with the help of the Klubi hostesses.

The secrets of cooking on the open flame are revealed at Helekuta Hut. In the age-old tradition of Kuusamo, salmon and other local fish in season are cooked into a delicious meal.

For the starter course, we will make a soup or a salad. The main course will be glow-fried salmon and boiled potatoes. For dessert we will make Poor Knights, a tasty dish of fried white bread served with forest berry jam and whipped cream. This Finnish gourmet meal will be eaten in the warm glow of the Kota fireplace. The meal ends with stories about life in North-East Finland told by your hostesses over a cup of aromatic campfire coffee.

The activity includes: use of Lappish hut, ingredients, guidance, and a recipe booklet.
